2nd Annual National Ms. Yurumein Contest

From the year 2010, the Battle of the Drums Secretariat has hosted a local Ms. Yurumein Contest, featuring Garifuna women from Punta Gorda Town. The Ms. Yurumein Contest is a Garifuna Cultural Talent Show for women over 45 years of age. This Contest provides a forum where our more “mature” Garifuna women can display their creative talent. A Show of this nature provides great entertainment and is generally well-received by the audience. In 2016, for the first time, we hosted a National Ms. Yurumein Contest featuring Garifuna women from across the country of Belize. The reigning queen is Ms. Dorine Castillo who represented Dangriga.
