SUMMARY:5th Annual National Ms. Yurumein Contest
DESCRIPTION:From the year 2010\, the Battle of the Drums Secretariat has hosted a local Ms. Yurumein Contest\, featuring Garifuna women from Punta Gorda Town. The Ms Yurumein Contest is a Garifuna Cultural Talent Show for women over 45 years of age. This Contest provides a forum where our more “matured” Garifuna women can display their creative talent. A Show of this nature provides great entertainment and is generally well received by the audience. In 2016\, for the first time we hosted a National Ms. Yurumein Contest featuring Garifuna women from across the country of Belize. The reigning queen is Ms. Dorine Castillo who represented Dangriga.

DESCRIPTION:This is the term used to describe the opening night of the Battle of the Drums weekend festivities. It will be held on Friday\, November 11\, 2022\, from 8:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. This event brings people from all walks of life to socialize\, network\, and enjoy an evening of good food and great Garifuna music. It showcases Garifuna cuisine fused with contemporary cooking styles\, dishes\, and menus prepared by executive chefs from luxury resorts located in Southern Belize and local cooks. It also features local and national Garifuna musical performers performing great Paranda music. Additionally\, this event features the following: \n(a) Awards to various Garifuna individuals\n(b) Garifuna fashion show\n(c) Silent auction of prized Garifuna art and items.
