The first Battle of the Drums summer camp was held during the summer of 2009. In that year the camp targeted 75 children and youths. By 2011, the summer camp attracted over 150 participants and has been growing each year.
Theme: “Wabian hama Familia utiwa fuleisè”
“Home & Family we give grace”
Target Group: 150 Children and youths between the ages of 5 to 16 years old
Objectives:
- To provide a forum that will allow young people to learn about the Garifuna Culture;
- To provide a forum for young people to obtain a greater understanding and appreciation of youth development issues;
- To transfer skills to young people in making of craft used in Garifuna ceremonies and celebrations;
- To instill pride in young Garinagu.
Duration: 1 week Summer 21
